Do you hate yourself and/or your sanity? If so, you should check out some of these sites!

http://www.dakkadakka.com
Forums are mostly populated by American tournament players who are not above rage-filled arguments with each other over pointless crap, jingoistic outbursts against foreign gamers* and slavish devotion to a terrible fan-made errata document written by a guy with a Sean Connery avatar. Basically a microcosm of the entire internet but with a greater ratio of toy soldiers:porn. Go here for tactics articles.

*despite GW being an English company.

http://www.warseer.com
Forums are mostly populated by snooty European fluff nazis who think opponents having half painted armies is a sin against whatever made-up neopagan religion is the flavor of the week in Europe. Like ox-worship or Vikinganism or something. Seriously, I don't know. Go here to read the best source of 40k rumors on the internet and the painting/modeling forums which have recently been reorganized into a hellish labyrinthine sprawl of sub-forums.

http://www.belloflostsouls.net/
Sweet Jesus these people are annoying. They have a daily Pretty Picture feature and occasionally some interesting modeling/painting articles but their tactics articles should be printed out and burned. Feel free to ask them if they think the effectiveness of the shooting-heavy lists they post is in any way related to the nearly flat, empty tables they play on and you will be showered with insults. I honestly have no idea why they're still on my bookmarks toolbar. A great place to find uncredited warseer rumors five days after you already read them. They also have video battle reports where one guy inevitably acts like he just won the goddamn superbowl in the recap.

http://saimhann.blogspot.com/
Fritz is one of the premier Eldar tacticians in the world and has an amazing command of the 40k rules. There's never been a mistake in a single one of his tactics articles. His pdf downloads are definitely worth the money and I don't think any of us haven't bought them. He's Frank's favorite blogger because he's just an all round stand-up guy. The only reason not to go to his site is that everything I just said about him is a lie. He sometimes contributes to Bell of Lost Souls (unfortunately not a lie).

I'm going to show you exactly what every post on this blog looks like so you don't have to go there:

There is nothing to 40k but points efficiency. Predator Destructors and all-biker armies are amazing. I'd go to more tournaments to prove my theories are sound but I'm an internet tough guy who is much more comfortable behind a monitor than anywhere I could be confronted face to face. Also I've been kicked out of gaming groups because I'm too awesome. :smug:

He also thinks tournament "soft scores" are bullshit which he's right about.

I'll post more if I can think of them. The problem with 40k web-content is that the good stuff is it's scattered far and wide.

You know you can really take "40k" out of this sentence....

This post cracked me up. It just goes to show the similarities in gaming web sites. I could post links like these with the same general descriptions (probably not nearly as funny, though) for Magic, DnD, World of Darkness....... I'm just glad to see I'll be right at home playing this game.

I was on Heresy Online for a little bit. Not long enough to be able to judge them, but I got some good ideas from a couple guys.

http://www.40konline.com/

A guy at our local gaming store, nicknamed "Neck Meats," posts here. You know how in every local gaming community there's like one or two guys who everyone hates? Yeah. That's enough to keep me from there :)

I think one thing that can be said for these sites is that there really are no good 40k forums/blogs themselves, but you'll have good posters, here and there. Many of the posts Matt's sent us about amazing project logs or how to do cheap, easy conversions that look good, were from one or another of these sites. But yeah, overall? :execute:

I go to Heresy Online as well. It's a nice site with some helpful people, and I really haven't run into any real asses there.

My only complaint about HO are the folks who obviously have no idea what they're doing, and you can't convince them otherwise. But then, that's forums, not just 40k ones...hell, not just gaming ones!
